Saint Leo University is a private Catholic university in St. Leo, Florida, United States. It was established in 1889. The university is associated with the Holy Name Monastery, a Benedictine convent, and Saint Leo Abbey, a Benedictine monastery. The university and the abbey are both named for Pope Leo the Great, bishop of Rome from 440 to 461. The name also honors Leo XIII, who was pope at the time the university was founded, and Leo Haid, then abbot of Maryhelp Abbey in North Carolina, now Belmont Abbey, who participated in founding the university and served as its first president.

The numbers tell a mixed story here — a 49% graduation rate and 58% freshman retention rate suggest that nearly half of students who start don't finish, which is a real concern worth asking about before committing. On the positive side, the median debt at graduation is a relatively low $14,250, and the $18,467 average net price makes it one of the more affordable private university options in Florida. Worth considering if you're drawn to a tight-knit Catholic campus community and have a clear plan to stay on track, but come in with a strategy — the data shows many students don't make it to the finish line.
