About This School

New York Film Academy is a private for-profit institution located in Burbank, California with approximately 965 undergraduate students enrolled. The average net price after financial aid is $46,420 per year. The graduation rate is 71%.

New York Film Academy – School of Film and Acting (NYFA) is a private for-profit film school and acting school based in New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. The New York Film Academy was founded in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock, a former film, television and theater producer. It was originally located at the Tribeca Film Center. In 1994, NYFA moved to 100 East 17th Street, the former Tammany Hall building in the Union Square. After 23 years of occupancy, the academy relocated from Tammany Hall to 17 Battery Place.

The numbers tell a mixed story here: a 71% graduation rate and 78% freshman retention suggest a decent but not exceptional track record of seeing students through to completion, and the $46,420 annual net price is steep for a for-profit arts school where career outcomes can vary widely. On the brighter side, the median debt at graduation of $10,750 is surprisingly low, which may reflect shorter program structures or stronger aid packaging than you'd expect. Worth considering if you're laser-focused on film or acting and want a hands-on, industry-immersive environment — but do your homework on job placement rates before committing at that price point.
