The University of Tulsa (TU) is a private research university in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. It has a historic affiliation with the Presbyterian Church, although it is now nondenominational, and the campus architectural style is predominantly Collegiate Gothic. The school traces its origin to the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls, which was established in 1882 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, then a town in Indian Territory, and which evolved into an institution of higher education named Henry Kendall College by 1894. The college moved to Tulsa, another town in the Creek Nation in 1904, before the state of Oklahoma was created. In 1920, Kendall College was renamed the University of Tulsa.

This is a strong option for students drawn to a small, research-focused university experience — with only 2,447 undergraduates, you're not going to get lost in the crowd, and a $12,500 median debt at graduation is genuinely low for a private school. The $60,500 median earnings at 10 years is solid without being spectacular, so it's a better fit if you're drawn to TU's specific strengths (petroleum engineering, law, cybersecurity) rather than treating it as a general-purpose degree. The 73% graduation rate is worth a conversation — it's not alarming, but it does suggest that roughly 1 in 4 students don't finish, so ask admissions hard questions about support resources before committing.
