About This School

Garden City Community College is a public institution located in Garden City, Kansas with approximately 1,321 undergraduate students enrolled. The average net price after financial aid is $8,681 per year. Typical graduates earn $37,000 within 10 years of enrollment.

Garden City Community College is a public community college in Garden City, Kansas. It was established in 1919 to provide a means for post-secondary education for area residents. The school initially shared facilities in Sabine Hall and Calkins Hall in the 100 block of Buffalo Jones Avenue with Garden City High School and opened with a first class of less than three dozen students. The college moved to the then-new Garden City High School building in 1954. The Kansas Legislature passed the Community College Act in 1965, authorizing establishment of 22 independent colleges including GCCC. Today GCCC is one of 19 Kansas community colleges.

This is a strong option for students looking to keep costs low — with a median debt of just $5,200 at graduation and an average net price under $9,000 per year, it's one of the more affordable paths to a two-year degree. The small enrollment keeps things personal, and for students planning to transfer or enter the local workforce, the financial risk is genuinely minimal. That said, median earnings of $37,000 a decade out suggest this is a stepping-stone school rather than a career destination on its own, so have a clear plan for what comes next.
